Pizza Hut Officially Launches First Restaurant

American fast food chain Pizza Hut has officially opened its first restaurant last week, following the footsteps of a host of foreign fast food chains scampering to grab a slice of the market.

Pizza Hut Myanmar is operating under Jardine CM Restaurant Group Company Limited (JCMRG), a joint venture between City Mart Holding Co Ltd (CMHL) and Jardine Restaurant Group Myanmar Pte Ltd (JRGM). Jardine Restaurant Group has over 680 Pizza Hut and KFC restaurants across Vietnam, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau.

Pizza Hut said it has already created over 100 jobs and will also be providing over 500 jobs within the next three years.

“97 percent of our workforce is local and majority of our ingredients are sourced locally. We are also investing heavily in our professional training systems and career development…,” Henry Yip, CEO, Jardine Restaurant Group.

Talking about future plans, Vipul Chawla, managing director, Pizza Hut Restaurants Asia Pte Ltd, told Myuanmar Business Today that the company plans to open 15-20 branches across Myanmar by 2020.

He said Pizza Hut is capable of competing with other established pizza houses in Yangon as “the prices are affordable and the taste of the pizzas is compatible with Myanmar palette.”

Pizza Hut’s first restaurant is located in Golden Valley, an affluent area in Yangon which hosts a lot of expats and rich Burmese people. The Pizza Hut restaurant is open to the public daily from 10am to 10pm.

Pizza Hut, owned by Kentucky-based Yum! Brands, which also owns KFC, Taco Bell, has approximately 16,000 restaurants across 90 countries.
