Kimberly-Clark and Mega Lifesciences Forge Landmark Myanmar Partnership

Bangkok, 25 December 2015 – Multi-national consumer goods company, Kimberly-Clark has appointed Mega Lifesciences Public Company Ltd., the largest Thailand-based pharmaceutical firm, as the distributor in Myanmar for their leading range of Huggies diapers and Kotex sanitary napkins. With 15 percent growth in consumer goods and personal care products annually in Myanmar since 2011, the move is an indication of the massive potential in this sector and internal demand for global brands.

“Mega Lifesciences is honored to partner with an international company of the caliber of Kimberly-Clark, in Myanmar. This is symptomatic of the positive changes occurring in this dynamic market that is expanding rapidly, with GDP growth of 3.6 percent in 2008 to 8.7 percent in 2014. And we project strong ongoing advancement in the personal care segment,” says Mr. Vivek Dhawan, CEO and Chief Coach of Mega Lifesciences.

Formalized with a distribution agreement in June 2015, by December the partnership has allowed the products to be available to consumers in more than 1,000 stores nationwide, with further expansion plans through Myanmar in 2016 utilizing Mega Lifesciences’ established distribution channels.

This contract with Maxxcare - a division of Mega Lifesciences – is expected to bring more focus and country-wide distribution for the Kimberly-Clark brand, whose products are found in 175 countries, and a drive to support quality of life development.

“Alongside the latest developments in the country, the people of Myanmar now have access to top quality products to improve their daily lives. We are committed to long term, sustained growth of our consumers’ living standards, and believe the strong collaboration with Mega will help both businesses to capitalize on the evolution of the country,” says Mr. Praneeth Yendamuri, Managing Director - Indochina, Kimberly-Clark.

Myanmar’s thriving economy, young populace and rising disposable income represent a significant opportunity when partnered with the rising demand for fast-moving consumer goods from the population of 53 million. In 2015, the average Myanmar consumer apportioned 47 percent of their monthly household spend on groceries and domestic/personal care products.

As one of the first international companies established Myanmar in 1995, Mega Lifesciences has an unparalleled countrywide distribution network for products in the mainland South East Asia country and has invested heavily in infrastructure and IT capabilities to ably support the ambitions of its principals. With eight offices, distribution operations have since grown to 30000 outlets covering over 85% of the country, as part of their 31-country operations.
“We were one of the first to recognize Myanmar as a growth country and have been steadily building our capacity including new state of the art warehouse facilities. We offer a unique gateway to the Myanmar market and we are glad to expand upon this partnership here with Kimberly Clark in 2016,” Mr. Vivek Dhawan says.
