Myanmar looks to grow tourist arrivals at Moscow’s MITT 2015

Russia’s largest travel exhibition, MITT, will welcome Myanmar on to the exhibition floor for the first time this year. In its 22nd edition, the Moscow International Travel and Tourism Exhibition will take place on 18-21 March 2015 in Moscow, Russia. Speaking about the Russian travel market, Mr Naung Naung Han, General Secretary, The Union of Myanmar Travel Association (UMTA), comments, “Russia is more or less an untapped market for Myanmar travel agents”.

“We’ve noticed that in recent years the number of Russian tourists arriving to Myanmar has grown. Over 1,000 Russians visited Myanmar in 2008, by 2013 this figure increased to over 4,000 arrivals, and in 2014 Russian arrivals increased to 4,835 tourists. With more and more Russians visiting Myanmar, now is the best time to promote the country, and we believe MITT is the best place to showcase Myanmar and expand our market in Russia and also Eastern Europe.”

UMTA will exhibit to promote their cultural and historical heritage, as well as nature tourism programmes.

This year, MITT expects to connect over 2,000 international travel companies. These companies exhibit to meet and do business with the country’s key travel agents, tour operators and travel industry professionals attending MITT 2015.
