China Unicom has completed an optical cable line, which runs from southwest China to the Myanmar coast, the company said.
The 1,500-kilometre long optical cable line stretches from the Chinese province of Yunnan to the Myanmar Indian Ocean Ports, linking Ruili, Mandalay and Yangon along the way.
The project, designed to improve regional connectivity, cost about $50 million.
According to sources, the optical cable line will improve south China’s telecommunication quality with Southeast Asia and nurture outsourcing industries like call centres.
