Thai-owned CAT Telecom Public is seeking approval to install an underwater fiber-optic cable between Dawei Deep Sea Port and southern Thailand, it said.
The cable will be about 800 kilometers long and will cost about 1.2 billion baht (US$40 million), said Surapon Sanguansilp, the company’s executive vice president.
CAT operates Thailand’s international telecoms infrastructure, including its international gateways, satellite and submarine cable network connections.
