More than 90 firms lining up for telecom licenses, sources say

A tender for two telecom licenses announced in mid January has drawn expressions of interest from 91 companies, officials at the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Telegraphs said.

The ministry has not listed the companies by name but has said they come from nearly every region in the world.

The tender for two licenses to provide telecom services nationwide was open from January 15 to February 8. A Telecommunication Operator Tender Evaluation and Selection Committee divided the application process into three parts.

First, it invited expressions of interest in the tender. Second, it will evaluate the capacity of each company that submitted an expression of interest and third it will examine whether the companies want to continue to participate in the process.
