Mandalay to build int’l jade market

The Ministry of Mine is building an emporium in Mandalay solely to sell jade to the international market.

The ministry also plans to put up another jade market with a one-stop service centre in Sagaing, where fine jade wares are concentrated.

“We are also planning to sell finished products to other countries,” said the Union Minister for Commerce Win Myint.

Yadana, the international gems emporium will be built in Amarapura Township, Mandalay.

The country’s jade export has been on the decline after China imposed heavy tariffs ranging from 3.3 per cent to 33.99 per cent on the product.
