Myanmar gas export income hits $1.7b

Myanmar’s natural gas export income from April to September reached nearly US$1.7 billion, and is likely to more than double before the year ends, according to the Ministry of Commerce.

“Last year, the country received [an income] of more than $3.46 billion from natural gas export. It was the highest in history. Every year, the export income in the first half of the year was less than that of the second half. We expect more in the second half of this year,” an official from the Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry said.

Authorities are expecting to reach an income of more than US$3.5 billion this year.

The World Energy Review 2011 lists Myanmar as the 14th highest exporter of natural gas in the world.
