Xi urges smooth implementation of major China-Myanmar projects

Vice President Xi Jinping said that China and Myanmar should ensure the smooth implementation of major bilateral cooperation projects as he met with Myanmar President U Thein Sein on Friday.

The Myanmar President was invited to attend the ninth China-ASEAN Expo, which opened on Friday in Nanning, capital of south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

Xi said the two countries should continue to strengthen communication and coordination to accelerate the formulation of mid-term and long-term goals of bilateral exchanges in politics, economy, trade, culture, security and other areas to steadily push forward comprehensive cooperation.

The current development of China-Myanmar relations is generally good, Xi said, noting that China is ready to work with Myanmar to promote the healthy and stable development of the bilateral comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership.

The vice president said that China will continue to encourage Chinese enterprises to make investment in the livelihoods of Myanmar's people and other areas. China is also ready to work with Myanmar in agricultural cooperation.

China is also willing to carry out exchange of state affairs management experience with Myanmar, according to Xi.

U Thein Sein said that the Myanmar people will never forget China's support and assistance for a long period, noting that the two countries have a "Paukphaw (fraternal)" friendship.

Myanmar's China policy has no change, U Thein Sein said, stressing that Myanmar attaches importance to relations with China although Myanmar is now in a transition period.

The Myanmar side is willing to work with the Chinese to constantly push forward bilateral comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership, according to U Thein Sein.
