Japan to provide equipment assistance in central Myanmar

Japan will provide equipment assistance worth 2.416 billion yen (30.24 million U.S. dollars) to Myanmar, official media reported Saturday.

A memorandum of understanding on the equipment assistance has been signed between Dr. Kan Zaw, deputy minister for national planning and economic development and Takashi Saito, Japanese ambassador to Myanmar in Nay Pyi Taw on Friday, said the New Light of Myanmar.

According to the document, Japan will provide 1.256 billion yen for upgrading health equipment in central Myanmar 2012 to 2016 and 1.160 billion yen for providing equipment assistance for the construction of dams in the Ayeyawady Delta region from 2012 to 2015.
In May this year, the Japan International Cooperation Agency donated a new grant aid of 10.6 million U.S. dollars to the resident World Food Program to provide vital food and nutrition assistance through a food-for-work program for nearly 350,000 people scattered in Kachin, Kayin, Rakhine and Shan states and Magway region in the country.
