A total of 15 Myanmar entrepreneurs will jointly set up a car assembling factory in Monywa industrial zone in Sagaing region, north-western part of the country, to produce cars for domestic use, local media reported Tuesday.
The entrepreneurs involve those from Sagaing, Monywa and Shwebo industrial zones, the Yangon Times said.
The project will be implemented with the help of auto experts and technical support from China.
Meanwhile, a total of 45 automakers have built a car-assembling factory in East Dagon township of Yangon.
In the fiscal year 2010-11, a total of 9,577 automobiles were manufactured by Industrial Development Committee in Myanmar.
According to earlier official figures, over 10,000 automobiles for family and business use were produced by Myanmar Ministry of Industry-2 and private car manufacturing companies annually in the country.
For the seven years' period from 2003-04 to 2010-11, a total of 659,755 automobiles were manufactured in Myanmar.
