Myanmar targets exporting over 100,000 tons rubber in FY 2011-12

Myanmar Rubber Planters and Producers Association has targeted to export over 100,000 tons of rubber in the fiscal year 2011-12, up from 90,000 tons in 2010-11, the local Phi Myanmar News reported Tuesday.

To meet the export target, over 4.86 million hectares of rubber are projected to be planted this fiscal year, up from more than 81, 000 hectares last year.

Meanwhile, foreign rubber experts will meet in Mawlamyine, the capital of Mon state, in September to disseminate rubber growing technique for boosting rubber export.

Myanmar exports rubber mainly to China, Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia, South Korea and India.

Rubber grows well in Tanintharyi region, Kachin, Kayin and Shan states where planting of rubber is being transformed from a small scale to a commercial scale.

Rubber, along with jute, cotton, edible crop, stands a main industrial crop in Myanmar.
