Palm oil imports from Malaysia in the past few months have been about 40 percent higher than at the same time last year, a Ministry of Commerce official said last week.
He said that during the 2010-11 fiscal year, Myanmar-Malaysia bilateral trade amounted to about US$600 million, with exports of timber, agricultural goods and minerals to Malaysia worth about $437 million and imports of palm oil, fuel, construction materials, electronics and plastics worth $145 million.
Bilateral trade to the end of July was worth about $160 million, with imports from Malaysia – mainly palm oil – worth about $107, compared to about $70 million by the same time last year, he said.
